Embellishment Workshop
My book A Handknit Romance was inspired by my love for vintage, hand–made garments which were often simple in construction, but used decorative finishes and embellishments to make them unique.
This workshop will teach all these techniques, then discuss the differing effects that the choice of finish, colour, texture, yarn can make.

Afteernoon workshop (£45*)
The items in the book use a variety of knitting and crochet techniques which are easy to do, but can be used in a hundred different ways to individualise garments.
The book also highlights the benefits of using fine yarns, so be prepared to knit using thin needles!
Aimed at the experienced knitter, beads and yarns will be supplied.
Techniques covered in the workshop:
- Working with beads in knitting – techniques, designs, colourways. Plus – crocheted bead jewellery
- Decorative edgings – knit, crochet, lace band edgings – colour and yarn decisions; when and how to use edgings
- Embroidery on knitting – techniques – cross stitch, herringbone stitch, French knot, bullion stitch, swiss darning; ideas for use
- Knit or crochet buttons – making, decoration - embroidery and beads
- Substituting yarns – working out what you need; things to consider when choosing yarns
Taught by Jennie Atkinson.
"I love designing knitwear and the endless possibilities for texture, colour and shape that knitting allows. I’ve had many years of experience, creating both machine- and hand-knitted garments which have sold in shops in the UK and around the world.
Since 2004 I have been designing for the home-knit market, and I am a regular contributor to the Rowan magazines.
In 2006 I published my first book of knitwear designs, Beads, Buttons and Lace, and I have just published my second, A Handknit Romance, which reflects my love of early 20th century fashion." *Please note price includes materials. Classes are held in the shop. Maximum of 7 students per class. 100% deposit is required at registration.
