Debbie Bliss

WHEN DESIGNING, DEBBIE BLISS LOVES to play with texture, combining for example, the diagonals of a cable with the simplicity of a seed stitch panel and using decorative stitch details to enhance a basic design. It was natural therefore when she came to launch her own yarn range to lean towards the classic smooth yarns that clarify texture and stitch and to use beautiful fibres such as cashmere, alpaca, silk and fine merinos.

What inspires your colour range?
Rather than nature I tend to be inspired by the world around me. I can be enthused by the simple juxtaposition of a powder blue mug against the chocolate brown of a wooden shelf or the flash of a child's red plastic toy against the clash of a bright pink skirt.

...classic smooth yarns that clarify texture and stitch and to use beautiful fibres such as cashmere, alpaca, silk and fine merinos...

My first memory of being "moved" by colour is seeing the fairy godmothers change the shade of Sleeping Beauty's dress by a wave of their wands in the Walt Disney animation and I can still feel the same sense of excitement looking at a paint colour chart!

What would be your dream project?

Any project where deadlines dont exist and I would be given a year to lovingly create it.. then throw in a budget that includes a compulsory rest on a Greek island to truly soak up the atmosphere for design inspiration.
