Malabrigo offers several different kinds of yarn - including a decadent silk/merino DK blend, their wildly popular single-ply merino worsted (aran) and a divine baby merino lace-weight yarn.
All of the yarns are hand dyed by a women's cooperative in Uruguay using mostly natural dye extracts.
The primary appeal of all the Malabrigo yarns is the bright, often candylike colours that flicker in subtle variegation. These colours are achieved through a technique the Malabrigo family call "kettle dyeing." The kettle is a large pot into which dye is added but not fully blended. A subtle variegation is achieved by not thoroughly mixing all the dye together. It can also cause significant colour differences within the same dyelot, depending on where the skein sat in the dye pot. We suggest you get a little bit more than you think you need to make sure you at least have enough from the same dyelot. (Loop always takes yarn back for a credit or refund if it is in good, resaleable condition.) |
