A full day workshop for knitters who can already knit and follow a basic knitting pattern but want to learn how to knit in the round, how to work with several colours simultaneously using both the English and the Continental way of knitting, what steeking is and why you would want to cut into your knitting!

A day workshop with a break for lunch (£60*)

To summarise the techniques you will learn are:
  • Long tail cast on
  • Continental or German method of knitting
  • Circular knitting on circular needles, double pointed needles and the 'magic loop'
  • Fair Isle: working with two colours simultaneously
  • Stranding and weaving of yarn
  • Reading graphs
  • Swiss darning: how to add further colours or correct mistakes
  • Adapting patterns to circular knitting
  • Norwegian Steeking technique: cutting armholes and necklines
For this class, materials are included: 2 balls of merino wool and an Addi 60 cm circular needle

"Born in Norway - from an early age I was fitted out in my mother's designs and developed a fashion interest. When old enough to draw, I created my own designs and I discovered knitting. I had learned to knit by the age of ten, but did not become an addict until years later, when I took my revenge on my crafts teacher by knitting a Fairisle coat. Failing to meet my own exacting standards, I opted for a more secure college course - business management - and neglected my knitwear design interest.

After years of studying and working for architects I had a career change and returned to Oslo to work with the Norwegian knitwear designer of Tinde, Iselin Hafseld. As a result my knitting projects became increasingly ambitious - sweaters and jackets had to be designed by an acknowledged designer to attract me. I returned to London, married an Englishman, and started work for Rowan Yarns & Jaeger Handknits as a Design Consultant at Peter Jones. "

*All materials provided including Addi Circular Needles and 2 balls of yarn. Classes are held in the shop. Maximum of 7 students per class. 100% deposit is required at registration.

Cancellation policy
Full refund of deposit will be given for cancellations made up to 2 weeks prior to the first day of scheduled class. After this time, refunds will be given only if the spot can be filled by another student. Please be considerate.
